Program Strategy & Engagement
Chief Experience Officer
Rusty’s extensive background in teaching, training and facilitation, school administration, and curriculum development coupled with his experience in non-profit operations, business strategy, branding, logistics, and event management, makes him uniquely qualified to lead the CustomED charge. A recent recipient of the Drexel University EMBA Alumni Award for Entrepreneurship, Rusty’s past professional experience includes acting as CEO and creative director of the world’s largest creativity program. He has coordinated international events, trained students, directed curriculum at international private schools and national public schools.
Director of Engagement
We can’t think of a person more qualified to handle “engagement” than Katie. Her passion for creativity, learning and deftly changing direction, all while uplifting others, is what makes her so valuable in this role. She received a B.A. in Theater Arts from Muhlenberg College and has a wide variety of workplace experiences, from copywriter at a corporate agency to Director of Marketing at a local theatre, always following the joy she feels in making connections with people and encouraging others to do their best. Katie specializes in student communications as well as client strategy, and is really, really excited to work with you (really).
Director of Education
Originally trained as an Interior Designer, Mary made a few twists in her career path and landed in the field of education (lucky for us). Pursuing her passion, she earned a Master of Education and an Early Childhood/Elementary Education Teaching Certificate. She uses her 10+ years of experience as a classroom teacher to ensure that learners of all ages are empowered to take their learning to the next level.
Program Partnerships Coordinator
After realizing she was too tall to become a professional jockey (a childhood dream), Sophia spent more than 10 years working in education. She credits her passion to her post-college year as a City Year AmeriCorps member, where her team received a national award for Outstanding Service Impact on a School Partnership. Before CustomED, she worked with disadvantaged families to increase access to quality education, and served as the Associate Editor for a national academic journal while receiving her MA at the University of Delaware. When not planning her next overseas adventure, she can be found either volunteering or cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles.
Charles always knew he wanted to do something in the creative field. His mind was made up about that as early as his first few childhood LEGO creations. After studying Fine Arts in college, Charles leveraged his family history of employment in education to guide him to his current role. His unique background of teaching and design enables him to develop and craft creative solutions to complex educational problems. Charles is a caring, friendly person that strives to make work as fun as possible, while continuing to deliver compelling and powerful visual stories.

Justin is like one of those guys that could probably juggle multiple sharp objects while telling you a story. He plans, manages and executes all coordinating aspects of our multiple nationwide events simultaneously. Justin graduated with honors from Stockton University with bachelor degrees in Business Administration and Marketing, both with a focus on Hospitality and Tourism Management. After graduation, Justin traveled extensively, calling cities such as New York and San Diego home before coming to Philadelphia, PA. In her spare time, Megan is an active volunteer with the MRC Sports Unity Program; a sports program for youth with special needs. She also volunteers her time to Bishop Eustace Crew Team and Wiley Food Pantry.
Henry Van Nostrand
ExtraordinaryED Manager and Play Professional
A woman named for a man is not new, but still, it is rather unusual to find a woman named Henry. Henry has met the challenge of an unconventional name by developing a strong sense of humor and a creative spirit. Both of these qualities give life to her mission to educate people on the importance of play and her drive to encourage people to go out and experience new things. In addition to being an expert in playing to enhance the mind, Henry is an animal lover and go-to guru for the local community.
ExtraordinaryED Store Clerk and Play Professional
To Doug, learning and playing go hand in hand. In fact, the power of play is nothing new to Doug. He is the Assistant Band Director for a local high school and a percussion instructor at another. When working with the kids he enjoys the challenge of relating the material to them to make the learning experience fun. In addition to playing music, Doug expands his horizons through Japanese classes on the weekends.
